My Core Values
Dr. Albert J. Cotugno, Ph.D.
- Service
I am eclectically trained, which means that I have significant training and experience in several different therapeutic approaches, some or all of which may be of value to you, your child, or your family in attaining the goals that you may seek. These approaches include: cognitive, developmental, behavioral, and dynamic points of view, which can be used to understand and resolve the issues you are experiencing.
- Respect
I believe that counselling and therapeutic interactions with children and families are based on mutual respect and trust and form a solid foundation for increased self-awareness, psychological growth, and self-responsibility. All aspects of my practice will reflect this.
- Results
I will first try and understand your concerns, then discuss ways to address them, and finally, set mutually agreed upon goals that address these needs. Goal setting becomes an integral part of our "treatment plan" which is then regularly reviewed and modified as your or your family's needs change. "How are we doing?" is a regular topic of discussion.
Dr. Cotugno believes that a therapeutic counseling environment should help individual and families develop a clear understanding of their strengths and limitations, develop strategies to use their personal assets effectively, directly address and overcome problems, and develop positive and effective ways to interact with others in a rapidly changing world.
Dr. Cotugno believes that the therapist-client and therapist-family relationships should consistently reflect a clear set of mutually agreed upon values and a commitment to ongoing positive change and development.
